Natasha Trends Over R1m Scandal

Actress Natasha Thahane topped the Twitter trends list as Tweeps continued to seek answers over her R1 million scholarship scandal.
Twitter users have not forgotten about actress Natasha Thahane’s R1 million scholarship as she topped the Twitter trends list today (7 March).
Twitter users are still enraged over Natasha Thahane’s R1 million scholarship she allegedly got to study in the US. The Blood & Water star is trending on Twitter as Tweeps express the “corruption”. So, take a look…
“We wont massage corruption guys. That student who was mistakenly sent money is sentence. Some kids took gap year because of no funding. Other kids are sleeping empty stomachs in Res NSFAS is not paying. When we tweet about 1 Million of Natasha we asked to be kind,” tweeted @ChrisExcel102.
“Natasha benefited from corruption and that’s a fact. We won’t ignore that fact because she’s pretty. Thuso Mbedu’s success reminds us that there far better talented artists in SA who can’t call some random politician and say ‘mama I need funding.’ We will address this monthly!” tweeted @JanVanPotgieter.
The actress told MacG and Sol Phenduka that former speaker of the National Assembly Baleka Mbete assisted her with R1 million funding to study in the US.
“I asked Mam’ Baleka (Mbete) and was like, ‘Mama, I need to go back to school, I’ve been accepted, I don’t know what I’m going to do. Can I have funds? Please arrange something for me.’ She managed to speak to (the department) Arts and Culture and they were able to help me,” said Natasha on an episode of Podcast And Chill.
She later released a statement explaining where the R1 million funding came from. She explained that she was not given R1 million but R350 000. She claimed she was first given R315 000 and after she proved she was attending lectures and other requirements she was given the other R35 000.
“She (Mbeter) advised me to explore the Department of Sports and Arts and Culture because they have got funding opportunities. That was my first conversation and last conversation with her. She did not make any calls on my behalf and did not send any emails on my behalf and I apologise for diluting the entire scenario because I made it seem like I had a personal relationship with her,” she said.
