MTV Roasted For Hiring Bujy And Big Zulu In GBV

When it comes to violence against women and children, South Africans never forget – or forgive. And the same is true for social butterfly Bujy who has just landed a new gig…
The DJ and social media star has been cast to front a documentary series on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), months after he assaulted Boity Thulo in a nightclub altercation
Bujy – alongside other celebs like Big Zulu, who has also been accused of GBV – will star in MTV Shuga: What Makes a Man, set to air next month.
In October last year, Bujy made headlines after he admitted to assaulting celebrity pal Boity Thulo in a heated argument. Pictures of the bloodied female rapper, who pressed charges against Bujy, went viral after the incident.
Speaking to Tshisalive, Bujy said of the incident: “Everybody was drunk at that time. I literally lost my temper because I felt like she was so unfair to me, the stuff she was saying to me on that table. [But] I honestly shouldn’t have done that”.
Months later, Bujy would take place in an anti-GBV march, which he was also ridiculed for.
Rapper and actor Big Zulu also has an alleged history with violence against women. According to Sowetan, the former Isibaya star spent a night in jail in 2018 after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his baby mama.
The unidentified woman alleged that the star grabbed her by the throat and threw her on the floor numerous times. She also claimed that he has a history of being “aggressive”.
In a tweet posted by entertainment reporter Phil Mphela about the MTV Shuga docu-series, Bujy and Big Zulu soon became trending topics.
Many were annoyed that the male celebrities had been “rewarded” for their actions.
“It’s so funny how people think making abusers poster boys for GBV is an indication of rehabilitation; that it’s not the equivalent of spitting on the face of the victim; THAT it encourages accountability & curbs the scourge. A joke”
“Giving Bujy a gig to educate us about GBV is like hiring Busta 929 to be a teacher in high school”
“Not Bujy and Big Zulu being on anything GBV related? Why would you cast 2 abusers?”
“Bujy talking about GBV after what he did is just pure disrespect to Boity”
